Well, if you had the amp connected to, say, a Kenwood 2000, Icom IC-756, or
Yaesu FT-450, how would you tune up the amp? Personally I think it has more

Install GBoost and let it do it for you. It is an awesome utility designed
for gamers and thus is perfect for us.
Unless you are trying to use NTP to keep your system clock synch'ed.

Set the ATU (if any) to ByPass click the Tune button. The radio will
transmit a steady carrier. Click Tune again to stop.

73, Ray,
I installed Gboost and do not see any difference with my slow computer.
I had already dug through the flex web page and found a list of stuff to
shut off in services.msc.
New computer that came with very little bloatware.
I used the 3000 as a receiver and and an exciter for the 40 meter
Can a single Pentium run Psdr and all of the supportive software reasonably or
is that too much to ask?

When I first bought my 5000 back in 2005, I ran it with an older HP Vectra.
Single core Pentium4, 2.8Ghz, with 1.5GB of memory running WindowsXP
Professional.
It ran just fine, although I did notice some lags and drop-outs when I
had FireFox running.
I had XP pretty well optimized, and
I have the buffers (all of them) at max.
2 gig of memory with windoze 7 64 bit is bad I hear, but hey, it works well
enough for what I am doing with it at the moment so I don't want to waste
money upgrading it, I will just get a real computer in the future.
Not sure if I will get another flex
As near as I can tell, G boost does not shut down Dimension 4 which is
what I use for WSPR/JT-HF operation.

If the OS is 64-bit the pc really needs a minimum of 4GB of ram to keep the
swap file from thrashing. My personal minimum is 6GB for 64-bit Windows.

Thinking about windows 7 64 bit, Psdr and cpu's, what works best, 2, 4 or 6
cores, lots of L2 memory in the processor, just the passmark rating, or
what?
Is there a point above which it has no benefit to Psdr?
And how important is the video card?
Just looking at the passmark list makes my

PowerSDR is multi-threaded and how those threads get allocated per core is up
to Windows. Win7 does a better job of resource allocation than previous
versions. I have 4 and 6 core AMDs and both run PowerSDR and other apps at the
same time without any problems. I recommend 4 or more cores.
I don't think Passmark scores play such a large role in the decision point.
Personally, the minimum system I would consider is 2.6GHz dual core
processor with at least 1MB of L2 or L3 cache, 2GB of memory with WIn7 x86
or higher.
