Steven,
I have had very good luck using an MFJ-1020C. It is advertised as an active
antenna, and certainly can be used that way, but it is also a variable gain
tunable preselector, from 300 KHz to 40 MHz. You can easily remove the
little vertical antenna that is built into the device, and connect
Brian,
Excuse me, but why in the world would you want to subject every user of PSDR
to having to load this extra software, when only a relatively few users
would actually use it. If Flex followed this same logic, then would/should

Interesting to hear you are having problems. I used my 5000 this past
weekend in the ARRL DX go round, using a K1EL keyer, and operating between
27 to 35 wpm, and a couple of times up to 40 wpm on some smart guys that
refused to slow down ;o)) Absolutely no problems such as you described,
Bob,
A suggestion for you to help determine if you have front end overloading or
not... insert a 50 ohm attenuator pad (say 10dB or whatever you have handy)
in front of the rx input, and see if things clean up or just get lower in
level. If things clean up nicely, then you probably are

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your note below. I don't have a 1500 on order (yet), but I do
have a couple of the older SDR-1000's and the 5000A. I also have both the HF
packer amp and the new SuperPacker Pro. These are very nice amps.
The SuperPacker Pro WILL auto-bandswitch with the 1500. You only need
If you are an old timer with Flex radios, you may be able to help. I'm

do this using an older Creative Sound Blaster USB external sound card. I was
Hi Phil,
I have done exactly the same thing in the heat of battle, but just

Does this solve your problem, hopefully?

Great idea! I for one would like to see basically the same I/O as was
provided on the X2 connector of the SDR-1K. I use my 1K as an IF for
microwave transverters, and the functionality provided through the X2
connector, and the software support of the VHF+ buttons, is fantastic. Now,

You put it very well, trying to improve perfection ;o) Different strokes

Upper sideband is used on all bands from 20 meters up. I use it here up to 9
CM, which is 3456 MHz. I have never heard LSB used on VHF/UHF.
Hope this helps.

Just curious, but when was the last time you adjusted or even checked the PA
amp bias in any other radio? I've got quite a few solid state PA's here, and
unless it was something I built myself, checking the PA bias has never been
an issue. What am I missing here?

David,
I believe the facility you are looking for already exists in PowerSDR. You
will need a UCB board, or build something similar, to take advantage of it.
In PowerSDR, go to Setup/Ext. Ctrl. There you can define which pins of the
X2 connector you want exerted on a per-band and
the amp with.
Usual disclaimers apply. Just a very satisfied customer (both of the
Ampkeyer and the Flex 5000)

Hey everyone. The big event (Sweepstakes Phone contest) is this coming
weekend. I plan to be active with my new 5000A, and I expect to learn a lot
in the process. I certainly did with the Sweepstakes CW contest two weeks
ago.
Anyway, what are the contesters out there doing for a DVK (Digital

I used the Winkey keyer in a MicroHam Micokeyer this weekend, but from N3FJP

It is very difficult for any program to generate perfect code when you are
sharing resources with something like PowerSDR. The Winkey
Richard,
I could be wrong on this, but my understanding is that the Proset (IC) is
specifically designed to work with Icom radios, and as such uses an electret
type mike cartridge that requires a small (8v) DC voltage to operate. In
checking the heil website, there is a note that the Flex radios
