Steve I used to get a headache after working a 48-hour contest with my big box
radio. I wasn’t alone. There was a lot of noise in the headphones coming from
the rig. Once I started using a Flex 1500 and now I’ve added a Flex 3000 the
headaches have gone away :) I’m now looking at a 6300. BTW
Now if we can figure out what’s causing my FlexKnob to lag when used with my
3000 (on a I7-quad core computer running 2% CPU) and works flawlessly with my
1500 I’d be mighty grateful. I’ve ripped out everything in device manager and
moved the ports around as well as changing the fifo buffer
Both Harry, VA3EC, and myself are running Flex 3000s with decent PCs (mine’s a
fairly new I7 quad core running the Flex at 2% CPU using Windows 7) and we’re
both experiencing significant and obvious lag when tuning with a mouse or
especially the FlexKnob. We are using the latest edition of
Got a Flex 3000 to match my Flex 1500 and all went well except now the FlexKnob
seems to have a port conflict.
Tried vaporizing all the virtual ports and doing a reinstall and then adding
ports back but regardless of which port the FlexKnob is on it's still sluggish.
The FlexKnob on the 1500
While setting up the Flex 1500 running with Writelog with MMTTY for this
weekend's CQ WW RTTY DX contest worked VU2NKS on 15 meters this morning with
him calling CQ and me running 5 watts. It took a few tries but got him using a
Hy-Gain Explorer at 50 feet. 15 is wide open into Europe this
Been using my Flex 1500 almost exclusively for serious QRP contesting for
several years. Life got better when I replaced an ageing HP that ran 20 per
cent CPU to an I7 stripped down PC that runs around 2 per cent with the Flex.
I either use an external Idiom Press memory keyer or setup Writelog
Re: Mike, VA3MW's comments about SweepStakes.
I ran single op QRP using the Flex 1500 and had the keying circuit stop once in
the 24 hours of operation. Same issue I had with my original 1500 which was
declared unfixable by the Canadian distributor and miraculously recovered when
brought home
Looks like I'm off the air for awhile.
My beloved Flex 1500 was taken out when a power supply shorted during the CQ WW
DX SSB test on the weekend.
Originally looked like a push-to-talk line had gone down but seems the damage
to the board was much more extensive.
