Ah, ruining the panel. That brings back memories of 1958 when the
railroad brought my new 102 inch CB whip to me along with a nice big
mount and spring. In those days I had no way to cut a hole in the
deck of my 1958 ford so I went to the dealer and asked that he do it.
He protested that
Well, Ed, I've suffered a great deal in my life for trying to be too
leading edge but I do appreciate your warning which reflects Tim's
continued suggestion that we stick with XP and 18.3 until he says it's
safe to do otherwise!
Have a great thanksgiving! We all have much to be thankful
You know, Tim, I always follow the audio quality threads with shaking
head! Of course, the 5000A in the principal rig radio and at the

an exciter for the ARRL 600 meter project. So I will direct my audio

Tim,
You can tell Greg to take my name off the list of people who want to
buy these things. Given the fact that you have decided to not sell the
model I wanted and also the increase in price makes me want to review
the whole matter

I really think we should be comparing apples to apples. I would
suggest that everyone who is impressed by the MFJ product go to their
website, read the description of what this is and then read the eHam
comments.

Hi Anthony,
Fellows,
Gosh, this is a perfect example of how diverse the opinions in our
society have become! And clearly understand that I don't think it's
good!Put yourselves in the shoes of the typical relative newcomer
to the hobby. Such a person following these comments is very
unlikely,
When I saw this topic I thought sure it was going to be about whether
or not there were exercises one could do to strengthen the ability to
listen to two separate conversations on left and right ears! I can
still recall how amazed I was when first watching an OT listen to
what I thought was
Paul,
Have you had the opportunity to compare your panadapter with that of
the very expensive asian radios? I was shocked when I saw the
difference first hand! I would think that import sales would have
stopped completely but then there are people who can't tell the
difference between
Hey, a fascinating discussion! As the owner of one of the first
Flex5000A's (one with no common mode choke on the mike jack) I will
freely admit to being one of those who were clueless as far as what I
was getting myself into. And I will admit that it took a lot longer
than a few months
Yes, indeed, these odd signals! But I was fortunate enough to have
a retired power company maintenance surpervisor visit the shack. I
showed him the mess on the panadapter and he asked to be allowed to
hear it.
He then immediately said, yes, that's an MOV or insulator or maybe
both and I
Now John, I agree with much of what you say and I have spent some time
in the past 24 hours trying to put at ease the minds of several hams
who obviously are worried about this goofy compatibility issue that a
certain element of flexers keeps pushing.
However, you are confused on one point
Time for an update, I think!
I think most of you have received photos of what I'm contending with
and for several reasons I felt it was definitly the power company's
creation. considerable evidence was present to indicate that the
noise was both on the power line and also being radiated.
Now, you have to remember that it doesn't take much to confuse this old
guy and at the moment I don't know when the proposed net is to take
place or what the target frequency is! I do agree that it would be
better to do a seven day a week thing at a specified time and 40 meters

Hey, I've got this can of gasoline that I'm going to throw on the fire.
I am not going to recommend anything but I do want newcomers to hear
what might be a little different story from most of the postings!
First, I bought a low profile HP pentium 4 computer on ebay for $140.

Steve,
You have no idea how important I feel it is to establish a library of
these waterfall shots. I am in the midst of trying to determine the
source of some noise that has virtually stopped all my communication
activity and I am finding some of the most interesting images appear on

I seem to recall that Gerald said it would be about @149.99.
But on a more serious note, I want to say that I have had a chance to
compare the performance of PowerSDR with another SDR program that is in
common use and have concluded that PowerSDR is incredibly superior. I
never expected to
Dear OMs
Can someone send me some image file---maybe jpg, of BPL interference as it
appears on a waterfall panadapter display?
I'm trying to find out what it is that is bothering me in the 3-10 MHz range
and really could use some help!

Gentlemen,
Some of you know that I am now trying to participate in the League's Low
Frequency Experiment. The boys in the program know me as /32. And I have
managed to generate a good reputation as someone who breaks rules and doesn't
know what he's doing.
So, I will come back to the Flex
I just put a one farad cap across my analog power supply. I'll let
you know if I see any problems. I will admit that even with my
initial current limiting provisions there was some grunting from the
supply---but it didn't repeat so I assume there was some initial
forming action.

See! I knew it! The smartest people are, indeed, here on the Flex
Reflector! Only here would you see the opinion that a book is not
obsolete and now nothing but an anachronism! Gosh, if we had some
such thing maybe it wouldn't be necessary for me to read every single
reflector item
When this discussion reappeared so did the knot in my stomach! Surely
no one thinks that the ideas being exchanged are too difficult or
subtle to be understood! I know of no graphical user interface that
couldn't stand to be improved in some way. But I also know that what

I fear that your response to Erik was incorrect! At this moment I am

This speaker thread is a difficult one for someone like me whose

Gentlemen:
Surely not one of us who had twenty meters displayed fifteen minutes after the
start of Field Day could fail to shed a tear of sheer pleasure at having such a
perfect and beautiful radio tool available! A panafall is absolutely more
spectacular than some big city fireworks show!
I didn't mean to imply that a long beverage was the only antenna

N9DG who pointed me in the direction of software defined radio a couple
of years ago. I had never heard of it. Reading some early plans for
the Flex5000A I saw a reference to dual diversity reception as one of
the goals.
