Update: I have downloaded PowerSDR 2.0.16, removed McAfee antivirus, loaded ESET Nod32 antivirus (much kinder in terms of system overhead), and am trying to trim my unneeded Windows 7 services. So far it has made a favorable difference in cw transmission, however my computer is still doing some

Craig Have you turned off Windows Search in Administrative Tools-Services (set Windows Search to disabled)? You can still do searches, it just might take a seconf more to accomplish but this is a real disruptive part of Windows. Also, set Windows Update to 'do not check at all' as when its

I appreciate all of the good suggestions and this weekend I will try the following: 1. Neal's suggestion: Turn off Windows Search in Windows 7 and modify the Windows Update to do not check all. It does seem as if another process is periodically working and causing a delay in the cw processing.

Neal, Have you done any evaluation or tests with the free Microsoft Security Essentials package? I have not tried it on my Flex 1500's computer but it seems to be kinder to a couple of older XP machines we have at home vs. AVG. What Norton and Macafee do to computers is criminal. 73, Tim

On this computer...MSE says it caught 'Exploit: Java/CVE-2009-3867.og, a severe threat and removed it. My radio computer is only connected to the net for cluster and Flex upgrades and it's version of MSE has no history entries. On both machines TaskManager rarely ever show a blip in MSE usage.
