Kind of unacceptable don?t you think? There has been so many changes to all
of the flex line of radios and PowerSDR that the present manuals only touch
on the basics and some of them are now very misleading or outright wrong!
More time and money needs to be spent on keeping these manuals up to date.
Even the Wiki page is out of date!

Yes, the documentation is really poor. Not only are their documents all
dated, even the online resources give the appearance of neglect. It must
impact on the number of support requests they get.

For a radio that is computer centric most of the computer info on the site
is out of date as well. I looked for the fireware cards on their recommended
list from 2008 and none of them are still available.

paim,
There is no such thing as optimal.   It depends on your desires, and your PC.
A large buffer (4096) and a small sample rate (48K) produce the sharpest
filters, but also the worst latency (delay between the keystroke and when it
produces a signal).   See the Knowledge Base article entitled PowerSDR Buffers
and Sample Rate Relationship for more information.

[Flexradio] broad band noise

2013-05-29 Thread bearcreekcattery
Query: My 3000 has phantom audio issues, for lack of a better way to
verbalize, especially noted when pre amp is on and a strong cw signal is
received on an adjacent frequency, as far as 100 Khz off center freq!
Turning preamp off helps, but is not a cure. I operate this rig mainly
on 6 meters, for what it's worth, although band selection shouldn't be a
factor. This cw splatter condition is strong enough to be copied 100
Khz +/- above and below freq on which it is actually transmitted.

[Flexradio] Bothersome Problem

2013-05-29 Thread Martin Bluhm
Hi,
I have a small problem that is bothersome more than disruptive.
I've noticed it primarily on 6m the last few days.
When I am on cw and go to ssb, my mode goes to digu with the vac on. When I
change modes to USB the vac goes off as it should. My problem is that it does
this while on ssb and I click on other stations. Each time I change freqs, I
have to go to USB and then turn vac. Turning on the vac I know is required due
to the setup.
How do I keep it from going to digu vice USB?

Thanks for the help in advance, my 5000A is something else. Y'all were right, I
don't regret losing my pro3 at all.

Would it be helpful to organize and create a sort of FlexRadio Table of
Contents for categories, topics, errata, references, etc. and then providing
links to already written articles and updates? Links to Knowledge Base
articles, WIKI, as well as the current Flex manual topics, etc. could maybe
then be accessed without having to incorporate a huge body of information into
one document. It might be something that could be easily updated as new
information becomes available?

Just a thought. The effort being considered is timely.

I've had my F3K for just over a year. I found the existing documentation
and Knowledge Base articles good enough. Many things have been improved
to work better over the years but very little has been added so the
documentation, while old, is still valid. When I had a specific
question I asked it here on the reflector and very quickly got good
answers. Someone posted a query a short while ago looking for a used
F3K. It's the best radio I've ever had in 61 years of hamming so I
wouldn't part with mine for anything less the the price of a 6700 :-)
It's not nearly as bad as people are making it sound!

Re: [Flexradio] broad band noise

2013-05-29 Thread Bill Tynan

Jim:

Do you have your noise blanker turned on? The kind of behavior you mention
is common to all noise blankers, even software ones. I have it with my Flex
5000. I turn off the noise blanker and the problem goes away.

Would it be helpful to organize and create a sort of FlexRadio Table of
Contents for categories, topics, errata, references, etc. and then
providing links to already written articles and updates? Links to
Knowledge Base articles, WIKI, as well as the current Flex manual topics,
etc. could maybe then be accessed without having to incorporate a huge body
of information into one document. It might be something that could be
easily updated as new information becomes available?

Just a thought. The effort being considered is timely.

 Jon/George,

As Neal said he is always glad to have volunteers to help with the WIKI.

As for the manual, all the updates have errata lists and it should be
an fairly easy task to take these lists and incorporate them in the
manual and the WIKI. A good community project would be to make a list
of all the errata and then ask for help in incorporating them into the
current manual.

I f one of you take the organization and management of this project I
would be glad to help with one or two of the errata lists. Breaking
it up would get other volunteers and you could coordinate and collate
all the responses into a update?

 Go for it,

 Duane

Kind of unacceptable don?t you think? There has been so many changes
to all of the flex line of radios and PowerSDR that the present
manuals only touch on the basics and some of them are now very misleading
or outright wrong!
More time and money needs to be spent on keeping these manuals up to date.
Even the Wiki page is out of date!

Yes, the documentation is really poor. Not only are their documents
all dated, even the online resources give the appearance of neglect.
It must impact on the number of support requests they get.

For a radio that is computer centric most of the computer info on the
site is out of date as well. I looked for the fireware cards on their
recommended list from 2008 and none of them are still available.
