hi, meryl:
don't know her qualifications really, but one rarely knows
them anyway unless you're a long time reader of that
person's critiques. the "observer" is a weekly mag that's
akin to something like "the stranger" in seattle or "the
reader" in chicago (and L.A. too, i think), etc. so think
and the whole nation elected the scary
president we have.

my favorite part of the review was putting "conceptual" between quotes.
what does one expect from Bush country? (not to denigrate the texans
on the list, i mean, we new yorkers have censor-happy guiliani to
deal with) - the majority of americans are suspicious of and
generally loath any art

I've understood Beuys to be this very celebrity: his 'talks' were always
illustrated with great flourish on a provided portable green/black-board,
the last marks on which were always preserved with fixative after the
event as a marketable objet d'art, and partially compensated for his big
fees.

yes, that's one of the many...
my beef is that here in dallas there's a lot of bitchin'
and moanin' (usually from critics) about why houston and
even ft. worth get all of the good
She seems to make many errors of fact along with errors of spirit--she
says that Gonzales-Torres "at least went to art school," implying that
Beuys did not, and seems amazed that Beuys had any mastery of
traditional artmaking. Didn't she know that he was Lehmbruck's pupil
and, essentially, his
