FLUXLIST: FFFO v MIDI

2006-06-30 Thread Alan Bowman

Dear Tecnicool peoples out there,

Sorry for the non Fluxlist content but I've given myself the spinny head mess
today trying to get a simple answer for this one:

I want to hook up my midi-controller keyboard to my laptop, there's no game
port so it looks like a USB-midi interface is the way forward.

Now I have a sneaking suspicion that my soundcard may not be midi compatible -
there doesn't seem to be any midi port open when i try out software.

I have got some midi-modules in software form - would they work instead of an
external module?

Before scraping through the dust and monkey nut shells in the bottom of the
FFFO coffers I need to know what I can do. I only really have the money for
the interface no real hardware :-(

Do these 'virtual' midi-modules eliminate the need for a compatible soundcard?
I can get them to play stuff from the desktop but haven't tried with the
controller keyboard yet.

Still awake?

As I'm sure you can tell I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about and can't
find a 'splaination of the net that you don't need a physics degree to
unnerstand!

If your soundcard can already play the soft synths,
adding a usb midi interface (I'd recommend a Midisport
1x1 or 2x2) should work just fine. Unfortunately, I'm
a Mac kinda guy, maybe there's a PC person that can go
more into detail?
