correctly (using jaxp 1.2.2). But now I get this when batik is setting up:

This isn't a FOP-specific question, so I would recommend that you check
out an XSL-FO tutorial such as www.w3schools.com/xslfo/default.asp. From
the information you provided, it looks like what you need is a
table-footer.
