Mostly Import from and some export to Word FM (not edits, but I'm a FM
user in a Word world and I received and send out to / from Word users.

Hi, guys...I'm using FM11 unstructured and I maintain quite a large
document set...10 books of 2,000 pages each give or take.
Because of the amount of time I spend on housekeeping, I'm ready to take a
stab at adding plugins that will save me time. In addition, I may be
bringing in a team of 3-4
John, what are your major housekeeping pain points?

Thanks, John, but this is a one-shot deal.
First, I'd never get a scripting product in here. The applications have to
have specific functions they can test before installing.
Second, if I was to use someone like Rick, it would be a 4 month process
for each one I tried to get.
I cannot install
I'd look into FrameScript. There are many useful free scripts available,
and you can write your own or contract someone to write them for you. I
highly recommend Rick Quatro, whose wizardry has dramatically expanded what
I can do with unstructured FrameMaker 12.

I don't believe anybody has proposed doing this with the Paragraph
Designer. Here's how I usually globally change paragraph formats:
- Park cursor on a Body paragraph.
- In the Paragraph Designer, key in (type, do _not_ select from the
drop-down) Body Text
- Click Update All
FrameMaker
For me, BookVars from Leximation is vital.
I recommend it highly to maintain variables at the book level for consistency -
many of my books have hundreds of variables, and I would not be able to cleanly
manage variables without it.

Hi John,
As you know, I am a big fan of scripting. FrameMaker 11 has ExtendScript
built in, so one clandestine way of adding productivity to FrameMaker
without plugins is to learn to write some scripts. ExtendScript is basically
Adobe's version of JavaScript on top of FrameMaker's object model.
The nice Symbols button on the menu bar will per default have Bullet
Character, Plus/minus, Double Dagger etc. Is it possible to customize
the selection of symbols? Running FrameMaker 12, here.

In your search dialog select Paragraph Tag.
Activate Wildcards.
Enter this in your Search box: Body$
Then click on Find.
The $ limits the search to only those matches where the preceeding
word
