I embed multimedia and I use the Save As function. It works well. I’m using FM
12. I’ve used other versions of FM and the function still worked. I would
contact Adobe tech support and see if they can help you.

And, as always in this regard, I should note that YMMV. ☺
For me, the “Save As PDF” was the option that worked better for many of the
older releases of FrameMaker – just had to play with the pop-up box options for
each new release that came out.
In FM12, both Print to Adobe PDF printer, and
"Things that make me go 'hmmm'" = That's one! :)I did not know that, having never embedded multimedia in PDF.David

The only time that I use Save as PDF is when I am embedding video clips in
the FM document. If you print to pdf, you get a flat pdf. The referenced
video clips are not actually embedded in the pdf unless you save as pdf.

As a follow-up, I use RGB and have better results that way. I do receive some

Hey Charles,
What we do here if we have odd-sized or even just rotated pages is put them

As I mentioned in my summary, I have just started to use Save-As PDF where
it works because it greatly simplifies a massive publishing task. I plan to
continue to use the regular print to file + Distill for books that include
files with more than one page size, which is the process I've been
There have been several responses to my original post. Here is my take-away

As I stated in the original post, Save-As PDF works perfectly for me as long
as all pages are same size. Books with dozens of bookmarks and thousands of
links come out just fine. BTW, I am using MicroType
Hello, Framers –
I’ve been doing really well at figuring out how to format context and level rules with my EDD. Lots of trial and error, but it has greatly improved everything.
However, I have one element giving me fits that I can’t figure out how to get it to nest properly. This is a
Unable to find answer in FM docs. How does one configure FM to do Save-As
PDF with the correct output page sizes (e.g., book with mixed letter/tabloid
pages) in PDF? This is not a problem if a book print setup is set to
tabloid and printed to .ps then distilled; the output reflects the original
At the risk of seeming blunt: Don't use Save As PDF.I never have in 20 years (has it EVER worked?), I never do so now (for my remaining time in FM), and I probably never will (being on my way out of the Adobe ecosystem permanently). If it works one way, why use another? Heck, print to PS is BETTER
