Post this question to the Adobe Forums for FrameMaker and I will provide a
useful workaround. Thanks.

Subject: [Framers] Variable Preferences - custome colurs available?

Hi folks

I am using the new feature for highlighting variables but I would like to
define custom colours because the options provided obscure the content of
the variable. Does anyone know of a way to add custom colours (or reduce the
opacity) to the list?

Re: [Framers] Variable Preferences - custome colurs available?

2023-02-02 Thread Orly Zimmerman
HI Klaus,
Thanks for the update about the colors. I didn’t realize defining custom colors
would not work with this new feature.
The feature, as Sue said is very difficult to work with when only FM internal
colors are available.
I hope they fix this…

Just another tip for Visible Variables ….
Add a backslash underscore ( \_ ) to the beginning of the variable defs (also,
idea was Shlomo’s).
(You’d have to do it for each variable (via the MIF file could speed things
up).)
It then shows the first letter of the variable with an underline, but only in
FM (i.e. on your screen). The underline doesn’t print to PDF or on paper (not
sure what happens when converting to HTML though).
HTH,
Orly

Have You updated to the lastest version of FM-16 aka 2020?
There is no such thing as coloured variable there.
This feature is present in FM-17 aka 2020. This is not installed by the update
process of FM-16...

You need to go to the Product page
https://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker.html
or to the updates page
https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/framemaker-downloads.html

Well, the feature is set in Preferences > Variables
Only the FM internal colours can be defined here, neither user defined colours
nor
tint.

The restrictions are due to the fact that this setting is session wide and
hence
independent of any documents (which could provide user defined colours). But
the
missing tint could be provided -> another feature request.

2023-01-31 Thread Craig, Alison GLI/CA
This doesn't help me as I don't have a "Variables" option in "Preferences".

But just last week I updated FrameMaker to the latest version so I'm not sure
why the option is missing.

If I find out anything, I'll let people know.

Hi Sue:

I can't shed any light on the feature's operation, but I would like to ask
where I can find this option within the program.

(I was the one who entered the feature request into Adobe's system and was
kept updated as it progressed through the development phase - but I've never
been able to find it, or find something on the web to explain it to me so I
can actually use the feature).
