There is no binary compatibility for boost libraries at all. To be
precise, they say this may work for some cases, but boost folks are
intentionally not examining if such a compatibility exists between

Here's what needs to be added to /etc/libmap.conf in order to make
supplied libraries work:
libpthread.so.2 libthr.so.2
I'll re-do the build with supplied kbuild and see if that makes any
difference.
Re-built virtualbox with kBiuild supplied in the tarball and behavior
didn't change
