Hi,
I would like to know if there is a mount command that allows to create a
memory disk that can be initialized from a file. What I am looking for
is something like mount_mfs -F, but that does not modify the actual
file. I know what I could easily to this by copying the content of the
file

operations as far as I can see.
By this do you mean that I would need to copy the whole content of the
read-only filesystem to the memory disk?
Yes.
I looked at the man page for mount_unionfs and there is a big warning
saying that it is a bad idea to use it, so I guess I will pass
as two separate
operations as far as I can see.

Hello,
I've got a memory disk that i made and now i have to increase it's size
so i can add about 3 megabytes more information on to it. I'd rather not
have to remake it. Is there a way i can use something to increase it's size
without destroying/remaking it?
Thanks.
Dave
FYI, it is a convenient property of mount_mfs that it will do a
newfs on your file-backed memory store upon mounting it. I understand
that a new parameter has been added in -CURRENT recently to have it
preserve the contents of the file-backed memory disk.
Caveat mounter!

Hi,
I've got a system with a file-backed memory disk that needs to be run
through mdconfig and then mounted at boot-time? What's the best way
to do this?
Is putting a script into /usr/local/etc/rc.d the best?
TIA!

Hi
Does anyone know of any utility to discover the hardware specs of a
freebsd host?
dmesg has lost the initial boot information and the box was booted
ages ago so the startup messages have been lost with messages file
rotation it seems.

%more /usr/var/run/dmesg.boot
tries to check
it, it gets an error.
I have a similar error on diskless boot process in FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT,
where obviously no memory disk can be created.
Can someon verify or falsify these oberservations?
Thanks a lot ...

I have built quite a few FBSD-ipfw routers/bridges the last while, and
now I want to take it to the next level. I would like to copy an entire
FreeBSD install to CD and then do the following:
- Boot from external media and create a 2GB memory disk
- Copy the contents of the entire FreeBSD

1. Is it possible to do a custom r/o install of Free onto a CD?
2. Is it possible to run FreeBSd out of memory with no hdd?
This is a novice wondering out loud: To keep things
small,
