I am using a Farallon pcmcia ethernet card in a Toshiba laptop. Pccard
sees the card but does not load the required ep driver.
How do I load the driver?
Thanks,
Ted Parks

Hey ted,
To manually load a driver you should issue
kldload if_ep.ko
Hope this works.

Kind regards
Using pccardd worked. There is an entry for the 3Com Megahertz 589E in
/etc/defaults/pccard.conf. As the 7500 has a built-in sound card, I tried
removing irq 5 from the irq pool. However doing that causes the boot to hang
after:
ppi0: Parallel I/O on ppbus0
I get a similar hang during startup
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have a Dell Inspiron 7500
(circa 1998) with a 3Com Megahertz card, model 3XXE589ET. On 4.9 and 4.10 the
device is not probed. there do not seem to be any irq or memory conflicts, just
nothing displays under network for boot -c.
Various attempts
by ifconfig ep0 up brings the card back to
life again
- if connecting the card to a 10 MB hub, there are no problems, it
continues to work properly, even if there is no traffic through it for
some time
Unfortunately the ep driver does not support setting the media,
otherwise it might be possible
