I have burned a DVD with growisofs and after that I am seeing a 3-5 min
hang at boot time. No error messages at all, just hang :)

That is normal, -stable will become prerelease before the next version
is released, it doesn't mean that its not stable. You should consider
migrating to 6, as this will be the last release
