Trying to find a version of Linux that I like, I will probably pick Manjaro
XFCE, that seems to run the best on that laptop and have access to the
stuff I need/want

patents we might have not considered yet.
But I believe there is enough usage of the Linux file systems
to make this a less than likely target.
