I'm not sure if it is a bug with 0.4 or not? We had no problem with 0.3
so I went back to that version.

You can't use OpenLDAP 1. I had many many problems using 1.2.11.
Upgrading to the current stable release of OpenLDAP 2 (2.0.21) basically
solved every single problem I had.
