** reminder today ** TITLE: The Bigger the Data, the Harder It Falls: Current Problems in Large Data Analysis
SPEAKER: David Rogers, Manager, Scalable Analysis and Visualization Department Sandia National Labs TIME: Wed December 15 12:30p, Santa Fe Complex, 632 Agua Fria RSVP and optionally order lunch here: http://t.co/vCW2D2G ABSTRACT: Problems of interest to Sandia National Labs – everything from Petascale scientific simulations to massive document analysis – constantly push the boundaries of data size and complexity. Making sense of this data spans a range of computer science disciplines, from the computer architectures and algorithms that crunch the data to the cognitive experience a single person has with that data in front of a computer screen – a place where design and meaning are more important than number of flops. David will present some current applications of High Performance Computing on data analysis at Sandia, and lay out our current thinking on the importance of user experience in order to make sense of the results. ============================================================ FRIAM Applied Complexity Group listserv Meets Fridays 9a-11:30 at cafe at St. John's College lectures, archives, unsubscribe, maps at http://www.friam.org
