Maybe you want to include this in your examples distributed with
 FVWM or in your FAQ.

This looks like an excellent topic for the FvwmWiki (currently
available via: http://fvwmwiki.bu-web.de, since fvwmwiki.org is still

Jonathan Kotta has created a new wiki-page including also
commands for gdm:

For those who use GDM, the analogous command is gdm-signal.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~](1)$ gdm-signal --help
Usage:
gdm-signal [OPTION...] - make the machine sleep in some way

Help Options:
 -?, --help Show help options
 --help-all Show all help options
 --help-gtk Show GTK+ Options

Application Options:
 -z, --hibernate Hibernate the machine
 -h, --halt Halt the machine
 -s, --suspendSuspend the machine
 -r, --reboot Reboot the machine
 --display=DISPLAYX display to use

BTW, I had no idea this command existed until I looked for it after
reading this thread. Thanks for pointing it out.

I find this very interesting. In fact I wanted to do this back when I
used kdm. Now that I use qingy I want a way to do this with it, but
that's yet to be implemented, I believe.

I didn't find it very interesting.
I tried kdmctl but it seems to want something else to be
running:

home kdmctl
Cannot connect socket '/var/run/xdmctl/dmctl-:40/socket'.

And it lacked a man page:

home man kdmctl
No manual entry for kdmctl

So, If I wanted a menu entry to shutdown my computer
I'd enable shutdown for sudo without a password.
