As far as I can tell there are no real docs for the API. The best I’ve been
able to find is what’s under the scripts/api directory. I believe the API is
still considered a “beta” at best.
Galaxy team, are there any updates on the API, documentation plans, etc?

No, a paid service is not at all required. jjw14's solution in that thread
predates native FTP transfer to galaxy, and that sort of intermediate paid host
is not necessary.

This is a runtime error, not an update error; it is occurring because we
mistakenly committed code that is not compliant with python 2.4
Here are your options to fix this error:
(1) update your python version from 2.4 to 2.5 or 2.6;
(2) update your installation from galaxy-central;
