I love the new version of mach 1 tts! it's just neat. I like the new brake
sound, it really fits imho. I still need to get the hang of entering the
pit, though, but all in all I must say keep up the good work, jim!

Hi Peter,
Thank you very much. Very glad to hear that you like Mach 1 tts version 2 so
much better.
I did try to get better brake and tire turning sounds. Glad you like them.
Thanks.

Hi Ron,
Yeah, I know. A few years back I tried playing it on my Atari 7800 and I
couldn't play worth spit after losing my vision. All I managed to do is
run off the road and straight into the road signs on the sides of the
track. G...

Hi matheus,
Cool! thank you very much for saying that you like Mach 1. I myself can't wait to
drive the tts version of Mach 1 with a steering wheel. Now all I have to do is
create it. grin

Hi Thomas,
I also very much liked Pole Position. Truthfully though I can't remember right
now if I played it on my Atari 2600 or 800 XL. I never had a steering wheel
for any of my Atari machines. So now that I do have one, Top Speed 2 is the
only driving game that I have ever played with
Hi Thomas,
Yes, I am working on making Mach 1 and Bop It into tts versions. Mach 1 is
going to take some time. I will maybe be able to use some of the original code
but not that much since it used the TegoSoft software to play the sounds and
that has features that DirectX does not. I also
Hi Matheus
My steering wheel is a Logitech MOMO Racing. I really like it. You know it
has a gas and brake peddle as well as a shifter knob and lots of buttons on the
steering wheel.
So anyway, yes, I do plan for Mach 1 tts to have joystick support. Actually
not even sure that it will have

Hi Jim,
Well, I like racing games. I was very fond of Poll Position 1 and Poll
Position 2 for the Atari when they were popular. Compared to Nascar
Thunder they seam like a joke to us today, but man those games were fun.
I had a Colleco system with a stearing wheel and breaks and I darn near

Hi Jim,
Speaking of Mach1 do you have plans to add it to the self-voicing games?
It remains to be one of my favorite games you made. I'd like to see it
eventually have self-voicing ability with Sapi 5 like most of your other
games have now.
Smile.

Hi Shaun,
A problem with having a mod, mods or just allowing sound files to be changed in
Mach 1 is that the game code was written to work with the sound files that it
comes with. Other sound files may cause the game to not work correctly, crash
or work differently on different computers and
Hi Thomas,
We had a discussion on the list about artistic copy write etc as with regards
to modifying all of the sounds of Mach 1. Not to mention that the sound file
that says By Jim Kitchen could have been changed. It was not, but could have
been. I just feel that my games should be played
another thing is if the mods are good enough they will want to share
it, and if the dev in question is willing to post a section on mods
on their site well the game becomes endless.
Audioquake for example is a mod of quake in itself.
However the 2 popular mods, overkill and jedyquake are most
Hi all and Jim,
This week I thought I would make up a new sound theme for Mach1 racing
when I discovered an Oh so lovely bug in the game. It appears for some
reason the game only likes the wav files supplied with the game and
absolutely nothing else. Most of the effects are 11000 KHZ 8 byt mono
Hi Thomas,
It was way back on like version 1 of Mach 1, A gentleman changed all of my
sound files in Mach 1 using his voice for the game and distributed them via the
gamers list etc. I did not like the fact that the game was no longer the way
that I designed and produced it. Mach 1 uses
I think jim did this to stop people hacking the game.
However after playing other games, eg railracer and topspeed those
files really are crappy in comparison.
It would be good if we could modify those.

Hi Jim,
Oh, I see what you mean. However, it has been my experience most gamers
enjoy the ability to modify there games to personal preference.
I forgot about you use to use
TegoSoft. It's been along time since I played with it, and I understand why
Mach1 was being so picky about the files. I
Hi Shaun,
Yeah, I was going to try and put some Raceway effects in Mach1 to
improve the sound quality, but preserve the game play as the game itself
is quite fun. It's just I'd like some other sounds and a better tts
voice better.
Perhaps Jim will rewrite the game someday using DirectX 8 and
