Hi,

In just one or two training sessions my accuracy with the v5.1 engine is 95%
or more. it works good for being 8 to 10 years old.

 Hi Dark,
Generally speaking I believe Speech recognition can do from 150 to 200
words a minute which is slower than natural speech, but works fairly
well on modern day computers. The problem isn't really the speed of the
speech but the training involved in using SR technology. If you want
accurateSR you need to train it before you can use it.

 And
those speech sensative meneues on telephones can be an absolute

2008-04-05 Thread Dark
This is something I'd absolutely love to see myself, cutscenes and
progressive missions and such, and looking at soundmud's plans for the game
it seems this is an eventual goal.

You can already create maps, I believe the ability to create things like
cutscenes and the criteria for missions, will be coming in in a lter
version. If this is done I migh have a go at creating something myself.

 Hi,

I might add speech recognition to Sound RTS someday, if I find the
time to, of course (at least the speech module seems to work if it has
been trained enough, and it is possible to limit the vocabulary
depending on the context and to group some words to go faster and have
less errors, for example go to or b one). But it wouldn't be
ergonomic enough without an important redesign of the game interface.
The current commands of the game would need too much micromanagement,
and the game would be tedious (or even harmful for the voice), and
irritating if too many errors happen during the recognition.

A solution would be more powerful, strategic, commands, like train 10
peasants, or build 2 farms at b1, and you would spend more time
meditating while your orders are executed. It would be like explaining
to the computer AI which units to build without giving to many
details. Maybe the computer would ask you a question from time to
time, when there is some important decision to make.

Moreover, there would be commands used to ask for a global description
of the situation, the problem being that you know less details about
what is happening because you are not (always?) giving direct orders,
and you can't easily explore the map interactively with voice only (or
maybe the keyboard is still available?). The interface would have to
be even more sophisticated to give only the relevant informations.

Another drawback: in multiplayer games, it might interfere with voice
 chat.

 Interesting, anyway.

 Jean-Luc

2008-04-04 Thread Dark
Hmmm, personally if the game would have to change that much, lose the micro
management and become question based, I'd probably rather it stayed as it
is, - or that the voice commands were added in addition to the
keyboard, perhaps with a question or speed control, to let the player
decide how much they wanted to use them.

I myself can certainly see advantages in being able to speak certain
commands, - like battle or building orders especially if I was concerned
with some other aspect of the game like examining the map or ordering troops
elsewhere, but i don't know if I'd want the game entirely controled by
voice only.

then again, I've never tried a game which interfaced with voice recognition,
so I probably can't evaluate how it would work very well.

Beware the Grue!
