Latest version of the GTK2 port in Portage is 1.0.1.1, which I have been using happily for a few months now... Note that it is hard masked, so you will have to unmask it by hand in both package.unmask and package.keywords if you want to try it, as well as emerging that explicit version, as there are newer unmasked versions already available.
