Should /boot be mounted to upgrade grub? If /boot is not mounted by default, then yes. The menu.lst and grub.conf files live in /boot/grub and these are updated when grub is upgraded, although menu.lst is usually a symlink to grub.conf. If you're upgrading grub through the emerge
