To answer the question in the subject... YES! emerge update ran smoothly, including etc-update and depclean. I'm still baffled as to how/why my profile got changed in the first place. I've got another minor complaint, but that'll be a separate thread. -- I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe; Gopher, Netscape with frames, the first Browser Wars. Searching for pages with AltaVista, pop-up windows self-replicating, trying to uninstall RealPlayer. All those moments, will be lost in time like tears in rain... time to die.
