Hello,
I got a used PCIe Radeon X1300 (RV516) off ebay for the s-video output
to use with an old tv that only has component, composite, and s-video
inputs and I need a working framebuffer. When I power on the PC the
manufacturer's logo comes on (with black borders on the sides), then

Hi all,
So, i rebuilt my 2.6.28-r4 kernel with the good options, emerged
ati-drivers and...everything works fine :-)
I would have preferred using free radeon driver, but it doesn't work
properly on

Hmmm - I notice from another email that you have lost your .so for
radeon, so that might be an issue, so

Hi gentooers,
i'm running a Centrino machine with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9700
card using the ATI proprietary driver. I would like then to try the
opensource (R300) driver, since this also supports the AIGLX
extensions (at least i think, http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AIGLX).
However:

Hi,
I have an ATI radeon 9200 graphic card. I use the 6.8.2 Xorg (latest x86
stable) with the radeon driver. My xorg.conf (here attached) seems OK
to me, it loads dri, glx and has the 0666 permissions set in section
DRI. But I have no direct rendering... I managed to live with it for a

Did you enable the ATi Radeon direct rendering manager and any needed
AGP support in your kernel configuration?
It's under the Device Drivers -- Character Devices option.
Hmmm... my .config says so:
CONFIG_AGP=y
# CONFIG_AGP_ALI is not set
# CONFIG_AGP_ATI is not set
# CONFIG_AGP_AMD is not

I guess CONFIG_AGP_ATI should be set to yes?
Well, that's for your AGP chipset. Now you need to enable the direct
rendering manager:
CONFIG_DRM=y
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=y
Ok. Seems I just need a healthy kernel recompile in the next days...
Thank you very much.

Anyone had any luck with getting an ATI Radeon 9550 (or 9600) for that
matter to work nicely under Linux (not neccessarily Gentoo specific)?

ATI Radeon 9600 works nice here on Gentoo AMD64 with 2.6.13 kernel, not on
that box now, cant say ATI drivers version. Playing AA got something like
30-70 FPS.

Hi all,
I just noticed that ati released drivers for my Radeon Xpress card. I
installed the drivers for Xorg, and it works great. But when I tried to
install the kernel modules, I got a lot of error messages with the
build. I know gentoo has the regular ati-drivers package, but they
don't

Maybe you have a previous version of the ati-drivers, and you have a
2.6.11 or like kernel. If you are not using the last ati-drivers, you
need 2.6.10 in order to make them work succesfully.
Bye.
