Re: [gentoo-user] Is rc.conf no longer used by Gentoo (baselayout-1.12.13)?

2009-12-14 Thread Mick
2009/12/13 Mike Mazur mma...@gmail.com:

I ran across this issue last night.

At some point /etc/rc.conf was no longer being sourced. Instead,
setting the XSESSION variable in /etc/env.d is the correct way to do
it. From the pkg_postinst section of the x11-apps/xinit ebuild[1]:

ewarn If you use startx to start X instead of a login manager like
 gdm/kdm,
ewarn you can set the XSESSION variable to anything in
 /etc/X11/Sessions/ or
ewarn any executable. When you run startx, it will run this as the
 login session.
ewarn You can set this in a file in /etc/env.d/ for the entire
 system,
ewarn or set it per-user in ~/.bash_profile (or similar for other
 shells).
ewarn Here's an example of setting it for the whole system:
        ewarn     echo XSESSION=\Gnome\ /etc/env.d/90xsession
        ewarn     env-update source /etc/profile

So, creating /etc/env.d/90xsession with the contents XSESSION=Gnome
(I use Gnome) did the trick.

Thanks Mike, most helpful! What happens if you want to switch between
different sessions at/from the Display Manager stage? Do you place
them all in /etc/env.d/90xsession ?

The daemon starts and runs and at home it connects me to the wireless
 network.

The problem is that the applet icon no longer appears in my gnome panel.

As I result I have no easy way to connect to another network.

 I checked main-menu--system--startup-applications
and Wicd Network Manager Tray is checked.

I looked in /var/log and see no errors or warnings but also do not see
any indication that the Manager tray is started.

How lucky for you I ran into this this morning and found the fix :-)

Lemme guess, you have pygobject installed with USE=-introspection? wicd-gtk
is segfaulting, you'll see it in dmesg

Not quite. I have +introspection and there is no mention of wicd-gtk
in dmesg ... however

 Sync and update to pygobject-2.26.0-r1.

Fixes the problem.

Thank you.

Sent: 20 Jul 2011 09:49

Dear All,

I would like to ask the community anybody has experienced any problems
regarding xfce?
My problem is that after update the window decorators (window border,
header the buttons on the left side [close, minimize, etc]) are
missing. I'm sorry I'm not sure the window decorators definition is
the proper for them.

I've deleted my xfce settings to start a session with default settings
without any success.

Anybody has any idea or suggestion what should I do?

Thanks in advance!

Works good with (user)groups, important modules are well integrated into
each other (f.e.: you can link objects from address book, file manager
or project manager to a calendar entry as an attachment), easy to
install, fine granular permission system, sync through carddav, ical,
caldav, webdav works, but feels kind of limited, activesync only in
commercial version, works also with php-fcgi, devs help in community forum.

Syncml works as well with the synthesis client on my Android phone.
The lack of activesync makes me consider the commercial version, but that's
not for this year yet.

You might want to look at tine20[1] - which originally was a part of

I already saw it asking when powering off but this has changed in the

I remeber something similar when I was running gnome-boxes. However,

[gentoo-user] Where is my automounting coming from?

2009-03-15 Thread Grant
When I plug my USB cell phone into my laptop I get an icon on my xfce4
desktop which mounts the volume if I double-click it. The icon
doesn't appear on another Gentoo laptop and I can't figure out why. I
thought it was Thunar volume management, but that isn't installed on
either system. Does anyone know what causes the icon to appear? I
also don't have gnome-volume-manager installed.

 How can I prevent this?

In Windows it (nowadays) takes you to a menu, which you can easily
escape out of. That menu allows you to lock the screen session, bring
up task manager, change your password or log out of the PC. I have no
idea what it does on Linux, because Linux I use headless on servers.

IMHO, the /usr/portage/packages/Packages file is an index for the

Larger packages with lots of dependencies, though, it's just less

an official guideline/checklist on how to consider to stabilize a
package? Is the 30-day policy the only policy?

I've been running several ~arch-ed packages that appears to be compile

stabilization. Is it enough to just open a bug issue and pray that the
arch manager would notice?

has something to do.

I have no clue what may be failing.

Thanks in advance,

Does this mean that DRI libraries are built into kernel? If not, who contains
