 bbc works again (at least for berlin)

 You can use cwp (customisable weather plasmoid) from kde-look. Requires
 hand installation.  Hope that helps.

 Or you can copy the URL from the BBC RSS feed and it should work. Let
 me know which location you want and I can copy it over for you to try.

 Open your ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc and add this line for
 your source of the weather applet:

 source=bbcukmet|weather|Perth, Australia|
 http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/92/ObservationsRSS.xml

 all on one line.

 Or if you prefer Perth International, then add this:

 source=bbcukmet|weather|Perth International, Australia|
 http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/1954/ObservationsRSS.xml

I can confirm that this solution works as long as you have first
selected another source, then changed the source to the BBC one while
you are not logged in to KDE4. You need the surrounding configuration
information similar as follows:

[Containments][1][Applets][15][Configuration]
pressureUnit=hPa
source=bbcukmet|weather|Perth,
Australia|http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/92/ObservationsRSS.xml
speedUnit=ms
temperatureUnit=C
updateInterval=30
visibilityUnit=km

Though I do not think this should be simply typed in!?

Be aware that if you are logged in, the source is saved as the last one
selected in the menu. If you close the applet, the source in the above
config file is blanked, along with the other specification data. Which
unless you edit the file whilst not logged into KDE4, creates a catch
22. You try to select BBC in menu, then edit the file, then when you
try to select the entry again in the plasmoid, it will not find the
locality. So you try then by shutting the plasmoid, but the settings
are gone. Therefore, use a working selection in the menu, log out of
KDE, settings are saved, then edit the source line in your editor such
as nano or vim. On next log in to KDE4, select BBC, and it now works.
Sorry if this is a long-winded explanation.

 Per the nvidia-driver docs (/usr/share/doc/nvidia-drivers-190.53/README.bz2),
 TwinView is designed to give you one large desktop and there's not much you
 can do about that in KDE.

i found this README file. i do not know why it is not installed on one
of my gentoo server.

i followed the chapter 15 to configure my xorg.conf file. and i made a
very little progress :)

now, after X started, i only have only one monitor displaying a
desktop. the other monitor is black, however, i can move my mouse to
that monitor. but i cannot move any window to that monitor. when i
move my mouse to that monitor, the mouse is displayed as a X, looks
like when you run X -config xorg.conf.new to test if the X is set up
correctly. i attached my xorg.conf file. i hope you can help me fix
this ;)

I've never heard of tweenview, but Nvidia has had a thing called TwinView for
ages.

And nvidia also likes to do their own thing in their own way. They even rip
out the X DRI and GLX stuff and replace it with their own, so they could
easily make TwinView work differently as well...

But I haven't seen that they did change things. For me, it's working as it
always did.

Re: [gentoo-user] KDE-4.3

2009-08-05 Thread Alan McKinnon
Look at the output again. You don't need an earlier version of e2fsprogs-libs,
you need the very version that is the blocker.

But, to install KDE, portage wants to build util-linux first and it can't do
that because you have an incompatible version of e2fsprogs-libs already
installed. So like I said earlier,what you need to be is *first* give it a
version of e2fsprogs-libs, then remerge kde whereupon you will likely find
that util-linux no longer complains (as it likely finds a version of
e2fsprogs-libs that it is happy with)

 But, to install KDE, portage wants to build util-linux first and it can't do
 that because you have an incompatible version of e2fsprogs-libs already
 installed. So like I said earlier,what you need to be is *first* give it a
 version of e2fsprogs-libs, then remerge kde whereupon you will likely find
 that util-linux no longer complains (as it likely finds a version of
 e2fsprogs-libs that it is happy with)

 I'd already looked for a later version of e2fsprogs-libs but there isn't
 one. Any other ideas?

 [blocks B ] sys-libs/e2fsprogs-libs-1.41.8
 (sys-libs/e2fsprogs-libs-1.41.8 is blocking sys-apps/util-linux-2.16)

 portage wants to install latest util-linux but can't as you have an old
 e2fsprogs-libs in the way. Solution is to upgrade the blocker first then
 re- run the original emerge:

 emerge -av1 e2fsprogs-libs
 emerge kde

Dave: Below are steps I have done to avoid this problem on my machine.
Hope this may help in your case

1. emerge --fetchonly e2fsprogs-libs  and e2fsprogs

2. Unmerge e2fsprogs-libs  and e2fsprogs

3. Emerge e2fsprogs-libs  and e2fsprogs. After that e2fsprogs blocked
problem will be gone then we can continue updating our system.
