Daniele and Marc, thanks for your input and suggestions, this is very
helpful. I'll report back if I learn anything further.

Thanks for confirming. Drat, wishing I had just tested validation of the
existing SLD when I was copyediting.
Not being sure whether this is a GeoTools or GeoServer issue, where should I
ticket this?
Thanks,

Good catch. Stable now points to 2.3.x:

Also, I updated the home page on docs.geoserver.org, and created/uploaded the
PDF docs for 2.3.0 (which were missing).

Just for detail's sake:
The way we're doing things right now isn't Windows-approved (the data_dir is in
%PROGRAMFILES% when it really should be in %USERPROFILE%) but it should still
work. Running as a service gives you full write permissions to the
%PROGRAMFILES% directory.
Thanks,
Mike
I have reincorporated the missing Freemarker template page after adjusting it
to the new structure and doing some copyediting. Committed on 2.2.x, 2.3.x, and
master.
And if anyone else finds any other REST pages that got vaporized accidentally,
please let me know.

Hi Magnus. What do you mean that page isn't informative? :)
I unfortunately don't have an answer (not much of a Linux user) but if someone
comes through with a viable installation checklist, I will gladly add it to the
docs.
