HI!! I have a question about my gerbils allergies. I have tried many
different beddings (corn cob, carefresh, shredded paper) and her allergies
will not go away. She seems so miserible becasue she is always licking or
cleaning her nose and it is so red. PLEASE HELP me and give me some other
Ok, I finally was able to get soem photos uploaded

Are you sure on the conception date?
It could be that she had a litter and destroyed it, or she just
got chunky and may now recently have been inpregnated
and be nearing the end of a normal gestation period
hey everyone
my cage top is metal, and its gotten quite gross and smelly,
i have a two tier gerbil cage system set up, so for years now they've been
walking around on top of this aquarium cage-top(they get there through a
hole in one corner). usually most stuff passes through the holes, and i
I woke up this morning and found Timbit to be puffy/fat/swollen? He seemed
A LOT bigger and I'm wondering is this normal? Am I feeding him too much,
is him sick or maybe Timbit is a girl and there is babies on the
way!?!? He seems tired and his eyes are most of the time half closed.
I think both of my gerbils have black eyes but under some lighting it looks
like they have red or ruby eyes. I don't know there parents genetics but is
there any really good way to find out the color excepted just looking.
Thanks in advance,
Wee

Well the thing is the Timbit was supposed to be a boy but even on the form
of the pet store said that there is no guaranty of sex so he may be a she.
It did seem to have suddenly but maybe I just didn't notice in till now. He
seems very fluffy (or fat I can't tell) but his fur isn't dull or
He (she) doesn't seem to have and he seems to be quite a bit fatter then

and silky but when I put him down he made his hair seem to stand on end
Hello, someone said earlier that they gave their gerbils corn meal to
bathe in, instead of chinchilla dust. Well I thought this sounded like a
good idea so I tried it, but my gerbils just sit in the bowl and eat it,
they don't roll like they do with sand! It's like they think it is just a
big
My gerbil (a female) does this sometimes too. She sort of puffs up her fur and then
looks much bigger, then a few days later she'll return to normal. I have no idea why
though, and it has nothing to do with pregnancy because she is alone...

It is possible her nose has become infected from the soreness and rubbing.
I would continue keeping her on plain paper- it could take at least a week
before seeing an improvement. You could also put a very thin application of
neosporin on her nose to help healing. I emphasize thin because you
My female will do this as well. She will puff up and appear fluffy, or
bigger. Has nothing to do with pregnancy either because she is alone.
The only connection I can make is temperature. It seems she will do this
mainly when it is a little cooler. Which kind of make sense, if you
think about
