These messages say that the requested locale could not be set, most
probably because your locale system is not installed correctly.

Usually "your system documentation will tell you", but under linux locale
documentation is virtually non-existent.

I would guess the most probable cause is missing locale support for the other
LC_xxx classes. In that case you might try:

unset LC_ALL
unset LANG
export LC_MESSAGES=de

-or-
unset LC_MESSAGES
unset LC_ALL
LANG=de

(It might also be worth to check other LC_-vars)
