I am having problems adding Windows shortcut files to a tar file. It appears
that when the shortcut file is added to the tar file, windows attempts to locate
the file or directory pointed to by the shortcut file.

For example: When I run the command: tar cf "Shortcut to Solution Team.lnk",
I get the error message:
ResolveLink: Could not resolve link Shortcut to Solution Team.lnk
Tar: Cannot add file Shortcut to Solution Team.lnk: No such file or directory
Tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
**Note that I have verified the files existence and proper name.

This is just one of the problems that I have seen. I have also seen a windows
popup message saying that the target pointed to by the link could not be found.
Sometimes after pressing "OK" for this message, windows will begin to search
for the files pointed to by the link.

The shortcut files that I am trying to compress usually point to a mapped
network
drive that is not currently available. This may be adding to the problem
although
it shouldn't since the file should just be compressed like any other file.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting around this problem?
