It sounds wonderful. No more mega-projects by those Indians, who are corrupting
our identity, putting up concrete monstrosities and defiling Goa beyond
recognition. But wait...here is a report, I read just today.

“We need to create better facilities and provide more than just beaches for
tourists. If anybody has an idea, then I invite them to come and talk to the
government. We are keen to develop such facilities,” said minister for tourism
Francisco Xavier Pacheco. This includes a proposal to set up amusement parks, a
golf course and even promote medical tourism, all of which attract a
holidaymaker to come again to Goa.

So on the one hand the government sends a draft resolution to the Centre
demanding Special Status for Goa, and on the other hand Mickky Pacheco has a
proposal in his government cabinet file which includes golf-courses and
amusement parks. Now, I hate amusements parks. To me there is nothing as
hideous as amusement parks, but leaving that aside, aren't we really being
taken for a ride? Pardon the pun.

Do businesses in Goa have the wherewithal to finance golf-clubs and amusement
parks? The answer is NO. So, we will partner with foreign companies, which may
be Indian, Arabian or even Singaporean. After all, foreign investment is
welcome in India. So what special status are we talking about? Has anyone
worked out the intricate details of how this is going to pan out in real-life,
after we recover from all the jingoism?
