Gomantak Times, Oct 26, 2007 PANJIM: Architect Dean D'Cruz and advocate Ryan Menezes have been appointed by the Goa High Court of Bombay at Goa to inspect a controversial site on the Vaiguinim beach. While the petitioners, the residents of Vaiguinim valley, allege that it is a PCC structure on the beach, the respondents Formento Resorts & Hotels (Cidade de Goa) claim that it is not a structure but a linear wall. The two would have to inspect the site on or before November 27. It may be recalled that appalled by the illegalities committed by Formento Resorts & Hotels and angry with the lackadaisical attitude and inaction of various government agencies to prevent such illegalities, the residents of Vaiguinim valley had approached the High Court. According to the petitioners, the entire beach is occupied by deck beds, beach umbrellas and barbeque platforms. Moreover, Formento Resorts (Cidade de Goa) have erecteda private jetty right into the Zuari river for the purpose of water sports activities; a shed right upto the beach through which Formento Resorts operate water sports activities and another shed erected upon rocks a few metres away from River Zuari, wherein a generator plant and equipment is installed. The petitioner also informed the Court that some locations on the beach are utilized for the purpose of dumping of garbage, to release sewage into river Zuari, besides constructing a PCC structure tank etc 10 to 15 mts away from the sandy portion of the beach, private chambers in public nallah and setting up swewage treatment plant very close to residential buildings in Machados Cover and across the public nallah.
