* FILM: I Dream of Genie: A new youth comedy featuring a wish-granting genie in a Sprite can tries to be hip, funny and stylish - with limited success. Quote: " In due time, this mixed-up, but sometimes quite attractive threesome, who do have some energy behind them, are transported to Goa, where they enjoy the beach life and its raves, find the girl, brush up against some local (though actually Russian) authority figures (read: gangsters) known only by their monikers, like "Ufa" and "Uralmash." http://context.themoscowtimes.com/story/139990/ THE MOSCOW TIMES.

The carnival float organised by the Goa State AIDS Control Society ... deserved to be banned from the floats parade. In Margao ... I watched these guys fling packets of condoms to the crowd.... I observed kids picking them up and some wise guys telling them they were balloons ... -- Jose D'Souza, Mormugao in H.
WATER CRISIS: In heavy-rainfall Goa, signs of the looming water crisis are showing. An official tender (published today in the Herald) calls for work on water supply schemes in various parts of Bardez -- Carona, Calvim, Pomburpa, and also Pernem. Centralised water schemes have long failed to substitute Goa's (more difficult but more sustainable) well-based water harvesting methods of the yesteryears.
AFTERTHOUGHT? In a 'corrigendum' to a tender for hot-mixing roads, the Goa government now say sthe contractor should have his own hot-mix plant, situated within the state of Goa "or within 20 kms from the boundary of the state" and should be approved by a PWD-approved panel. (Advt, Herald)

QUOTE...UNQUOTE: "The first-ever Idea Goa State Games, organised by Don Bosco College of Physical Education, was a well-thought and executed idea. Getting together more than 1,500 sportspersons -- spread over 16 disciplines -- is in itself an achievement. Thanks to the Games, hockey got a lifeline, basketball got noticed, boxing shot into the limelight and volleyball proved it's more than sports' poor cousins in Goa. Before January 2006 draws near, the organisers need to do a rethink about the crowd-response, prize money, medical facilities and pre-event publicity. Tob e fair, a mere Idea will just not do!"
