IFFI2005 was a total failure, because apart from the
lack of entertainment, it did not benefit the local
people commercially. The Entertainment Society of Goa
was flooded with applications to set up stalls, run
rickshaws and put up counters at the Inox courtyard,
but apart from the beach screenings -- which were
shifted from Miramar to Caranzalem -- there were not
many competitions or other activities. Pratap
Bhonsale of Sohan Caterers rues this, saying
"We were able to make only Rs 1000 to 2000 per day."

This next recipe can be made and wrapped in a pretty colored
foil and tied with holiday ribbons to be presented as yummy
gifts.

CHRISTMAS CAKE

120 grams/4 1/2 ounces margarine, 2 eggs, 120 gms sugar, 1
tablespoon milk, 175gms/6 ounces refined flour, 1 level
teaspoon baking powder, 50 gms/3 1/2 tablespoons mixed fruit,
(currants sultanas, raisins), 1/2 cup almonds (chopped), 15
gms/3 teaspoons walnuts (chopped).

Cream margarine and sugar till light and fluffy.
Beat the eggs and gradually add to the mixture.
Add the flour, sifted with baking powder. Blend the
batter well and mix the fruits and the chopped
almonds and walnuts. Stir in the milk so that the
mixture becomes even and smooth. Grease a round
