Okay, looking at that log, it is clear that kpsewhich is identifying /usr/local/share/texmf as the location of your texmf tree, and thus this is where install.sh will try to put the GregorioTeX files by default. I don't know how you might go about fixing the issue with kpsewhich, but

I'd avoid the gcc48 install for the moment. Part of Fr Tran's difficulty is my fault. I've already installed quite a few open source packages over the years and so I already have them. As he hits a snag, I'll look at what's missing. That way we'll have a minimalist set if packages that need
