What a great group this is... So glad to have found you guys. (Quick intro:
I'm Kat who has been looking at 15th/16th c. costume for a couple years now
and needs to get down to business and actually sew something)
LOL -- I *so* resemble that remark! I
I just joined the list in December... I was so excited to find a list with
others interested in making costumes / reproduction clothing!
I've always wanted to make something, feeling like I was born in the wrong
century since I was a little girl. Now, I've finally begun working on a
late 1700's
I was struck at my husband's Postgrad graduation ceremony recently how, in a
post-Harry Potter world, academic robes now look faintly ridiculous.
Everyone just looks like a Hufflepuff etc.

Obligatory costume content: Do you know that Lego people now have little
fabric capes? They are
Kristin,
Your outfit looks great. Take your time and I'm sure it will be a
beautiful finished garment.
I just joined a few days ago. This group is full of excellent
information.

Slow down. The trail is the thing, not the end of the trail. Travel
too fast and you miss all you are
Funny how that works, isn't it? Something similar happened to my
jewelry/personal embellishment tastes when I joined the SCA...a lot of
modern stuff just didn't *look* right!

Perhaps it is a personal perception thing, but as a size 8
corset-wearing woman who worked for years corsetting larger opera
singers, I can tell you that in my experience, the larger the woman, the
more a corset can compress without discomfort. You can't cinch me more
than one or two inches
Barjne, I o recreation of the early 100's with the SCA, so our time periods
are different but if I had a cance to buy one of your pieces would expect to
pay well above $200 for such a prize. I have been looking at your work for a
couple of years now and trying to do better because yours is so
Me too, I was hoping that others would take advantage of the Picture
Trail album I set up for H-costume for the gift exchange...but now that
they have these free photo albums which everyone can use, I guess it
maybe it isn't necessary? No one is really using it...boo hoo.

I think that is a very reasonable price. Just as a guideline, I have a
friend who is a wonderful fiber artist (amongst many other things) she
marks her wares up 200%. Not sure what this would make your bags cost,
but thought it might be an idea to consider. Meanwhile, I am putting on

Do you consider my bag for 100 dollars cheap or expensive?

Having done stumpwork, I consider $100 a reasonable price for the bag.
That's the type of unique item that my husband tries to buy me for
birthdays, etc.
Wasn't there a poster of Cher all done up in Saran Wrap around 1976-76? It
raised eyebrows at the time even thought her bits were covered in enough
wrap that it became opague.

Based on my income (Im a student), they're expensive. If I had a Real
Job (tm), I'd consider the price to be a *real* bargain!

I am looking for a light weight material to make a banner.
I have been recommended Silk Noil as a possible fabric.
How sturdy is silk noil as I have never worked with this material.
What would you recommend? Needs to not look modern.
I have some idea what I am looking for but I am covering all
