Because the extension will only apply on the current opened document.

Hung, I was in the same situation because I had expected to see an
interractive but complicated dialog to appear. However, when I got JC's
revelation that the extension does nothing to a Unicode document I know
exactly what to do: just open a

Good. In my case, the extension was tested successfully with OpenOffice 2.4.
I'll write a howto about it and this will be included in forthcoming
Linux 101 trainings.
