Also, could you try with make_tgz.sh to see if the sed/gzip problem is present on your system, too? make_tgz.sh creates a harbour-1.0.0-darwin_9.4.0.inst.sh but if I try to install it it gives gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file. I'll remove this self extracting script. If it creates problem
