Happy Thanksgiving to my stateside brethren!
Has anybody ever done a mod on the fixed front end preselection circuits of
the FT-840 to increase sensitivity on the MW and LW bands? I haven't looked
closely at the schematic yet but I would presume that it's a matter of
defeating a resistor or two.
Has anyone downloaded this software? I did and it looks interesting.

For many many years I have enjoyed DXing the Mexican shortwave domestic stations at
day on 49 meters, especially in winter when the D layer is weaker. A band scan today
turned up nothing at all from Central Florida. Are they all gone now?

Groundwave propagation distance is definitely dependent upon transmitter power,
transmission mode, vertical antenna design and ground conductivity. Horizontal
antennas produce virtually no ground or surface wave broadside to the antenna but they
do produce some off of the ends.
This is very
Thomas KN4LF Says:
Sorry for the continued delay in restarting my 7 Day HF/MF radio propagation outlook.
I want to produce it on a more timely daily basis which is a time consuming project,
in order to be accurate. I have ongoing business issues that I have to take care of
before I can retire
Thomas KN4LF Says:
It would appear that a full halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) has given us a major
geomagnetic storm and prospects for some good MF propagation conditions are down the
drain for now.

Here are some general guidelines concerning correlation of propagation indices to
actual expected propagation conditions. You can find more information at
http://www.kn4lf.com/kn4lf8.htm .
1.) Dropping indices numbers are better, except for solar flux on HF.
2.) For medium frequencies a solar
Hi Steve,
I downloaded your latest version of the Amateur Contact Log 2.4 software and it's
great. Have you ever considered a general purpose logging program for LW, MW and SW
listeners and DX'ers? I think it would be a big hit in the SWL community.
BTW your website of http://www.n3fjp.com
Just an FYI, the August 2003 issue of CQ Shortwave News magazine is now out. See it
at:

PROTECTED] .BTW I have no financial interest in this magazine, I'm promoting it
because I just think it's a good thing.
