            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Senate Democrats want to take back the president's war authorization and
replace it with a resolution that would limit the military's role in Iraq.
Tonight, on Hardball, Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE), one of the authors of the new
measure, talks about what it all means and if he has the support in the Senate
to make it happen. Read more from the AP here:

And earlier today, former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) dropped out of the race for
'08, citing a lack of money. He'll be here tonight to tell us why and when
he'll back someone else (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17297085/).

Then, more news from the 2008 field. The NY Times reports Sen. Barack Obama
(D-IL) says he was occupied with a red-eye flight and a haircut - among other
things - and unaware of the back and forth this week between his campaign and
Sen. Hillary Clinton's (D-NY). We'll hash it all out with the Hardballers:
MSNBC Political Analyst Mike Barnicle and Ron Christie, GOP consultant and
former aide to both President Bush and Vice President Cheney. And later in the
show, we'll hear from MSNBC Political Analyst Craig Crawford and The Hill's
A.B. Stoddard. Read the latest from Stoddard

Hardball's David Shuster will have the latest tonight on Day Three of the
jury's deliberation in the Scooter Libby CIA leak trial. Plus, we'll take a
look at the new documentary "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib," and talk to producer Rory
Kennedy. Read the Washington Post's Tom Shales on "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib:
Fearlessly Facing the Shame"

And this weekend the National Governors' Association holds its winter meeting
here in Washington. Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) is NGA Chairwoman.
She'll be here to talk about the NGA's agenda, what the presidential candidates
need to make it in Arizona and the West, and how her state is handling illegal
immigration from Mexico.
