------------------------------------------------------ The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC ------------------------------------------------------ Is the Bush administration in a "State of Denial?" Tonight on Hardball, we'll hear from the man making that allegation - legendary Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward. His new book, the third in a series about the George W. Bush presidency, has Washington buzzing.
Then, the scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley and the House GOP leadership continues. Today, a breaking news story from the Washington Post: Congressional pages had been warned to stay away from Foley in 1995. Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will have a full report with the latest. We'll also be joined by William Brooks, Palm Beach City Council Member and Foley family friend. Caught up in the Foley scandal is House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL). Yesterday an editorial in the Washington Times called for Hastert to resign. John Leasch is the Democrat running against Hastert in Illinois. Chris will find out what he thinks about the Foley scandal, Hastert, and Iraq. >From today's Washington Times: Hastert rival sees surge in support >http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20061003-104001-5895r.htm. Why didn't the FBI investigation into Foley's actions didn't begin sooner? We'll hear from Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, who turned over copies of emails between Foley and a former Congressional page from Louisiana to the FBI on July 21, 2006. Sloan will tell us about what she read in the emails and what she thinks about the FBI and House leadership response.
