Title: Re: [Hardhats-members] Free EHR software is on hold
Hardhats members: The review of VOE by the Secretary's office is fairly standard procedure. Anytime one of the HHS agencies gets ready to issue a press release, review by the Department is a given. In the case of VOE, it needs

Thank you for addressing the group. In
the absence of information, sometimes the situation is exaggerated and people get
frustrated.
I would love to hear a project status on
the next community call.

It is my perspective that even if the release is held up, there is a major
amount of work that needs to be done so that all of those who will support
the acquiring enterprise are fully linked to the disciplines (such as
health record administrators-AHIMA) who fully understand the present
I dont disagree with what you have said but my point is that while it is
being held up we msut work furiously on these other issues to underpins
that VistA and VOE Suppliers/Acquirers fully undestand the complexity and
multiple dimensions and have demonstrated mastery to work with the solo
Completely agreed. This is an opportunity to spend
time improving those other aspects - at least if you
have access to the source code or whatever aspect of
the project you are working on. My concern is only
that if VistA-Office doesn't move into an open-source
model soon it might never be
Sounds like a prime opportunity for use to offer a read-to-go WorldVistA CD.

This is horrible news!
I'm one of the many people anxiously awaiting the
release of VistA-Office EHR and it getting blocked by
some review process sounds incredibly fishy. Is
this an attempt by the government to scuttle the plan?
If so, is there someone we can write to, advocate
towards, etc.?

My AMA newsletter shows the ongoing shaping of how the new outpatient
pay for performance policy of CMS will work. And I believe that
one of the driving forces behind VO will be the need for CMS to be
able to say we expect performance data for full payment, and here is
software that you can use
Thank you Nancy - great information as always.
Through a bit of digging I found web and email
addresses for these contacts as well. I went to MIT
for CS, which might have some pull with Mark McClellan
(he's an MIT grad it looks like). Hopefully I'll get
some responses back in the next few days
I have been told that hard copy letters tend to bear more weight, in congress
at least, but with the need for them to be irradiated and thus the marked
delay in their arrival, may I suggest both snail and email correspondence.

I would expect that the documents, including email and other memos,
surrounding the whole development and release of VO would themselves be
available under FOIA. Is this the case?
