Dear Friends, One more quick notice before Pesach-- We are pleased to be distributing two exciting new publications in modern Jewish history, one published in Chile and one in South Africa. The first title: Eva Goldschmidt's HUYENDO DEL INFIERNO NAZI (Santiago, 2008), examines the flight of German-Jewish refugees to Chile, a path she herself traveled as a child in 1939. [Full disclosure, and with lots of pride: this is my mother ;-) ] The second title, Adrienne Kollenberg and Lisa Greenstein's JEWISH LIFE IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN COUNTRY COMMUNITIES (Johannesburg, 2002-2008), looks at the vast assortment of Jewish communities dotting the South African countryside and examines their origins and experiences, making much use of historic photographs. Full details and cover scans are available online at <http://danwymanbooks.com/chile/chile.htm>http://danwymanbooks.com/chile/chile.htm; text only descriptions are below Both titles may be ordered from us at d...@danwymanbooks.com We wish you a Chag Pesach Sameach, and we look forward to hearing from you. --Dan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dan Wyman Books, LLC. <http://www.DanWymanBooks.com>www.DanWymanBooks.com 183 Ainslie St Brooklyn, NY 11211 Open By Appointment d...@danwymanbooks.com v: 718.963.0410 c: 347.564.3954 (note new nrs.) The first two volumes, part of the unique on-going research project of South African Friends of Beth Hatefutsoth (or the Museum of the Jewish Diaspora), have enjoyed great success among readers, both in South Africa and abroad. Volume One focused on the northern and eastern Transvaal areas (mainly comprising today's Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces). Volume Two focused on the Western Cape. The final instalments will cover the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, and the southern Gauteng area, including the various towns on the East and West Rand. The third volume of Jewish Life in the South African Country Communities, chronicling the history of the once strong and now largely vanished Jewish presence in the smaller towns and rural districts of South Africa, has now been published. The book starts with the earliest settlement of Jews in South Africa, before and including the 1820 Settlers. The areas covered in the new volume include the Garden Route, Little Karoo, the Cape-Midlands, Overberg and Settler country. The publication is sought after Africana and is of interest to all those, Jews and others, who lived in the country towns and shared their lives, as well as those who holidayed in the area. It will also appeal to historians, genealogists, and librarians. The research covers almost 1500 small towns and villages in South Africa where Jews lived. No village, hamlet or railway siding has been too small; so long as there has been a Jewish presence there, every location has found its way into the record. In addition to recording the story of the various Jewish communities, it also recounts the history of the places in which they lived. The book also includes many colorful anecdotes of life in the country towns and villages, as well as numerous hitherto unpublished photographs. New Condition. Printed on heavy glossy paper. (k-mx-1-18) $210.00 for all three large volumes, over 1200 pages total. --- Messages and opinions expressed on Hasafran are those of the individual author and are not necessarily endorsed by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) =========================================================== Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: hasaf...@osu.edu SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 @ osu.edu Ha-Safran Archives: Current: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/maillist.html History: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/history.html AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
