Greetings all:

I was a first-time ALA Conference attendee this year. The Jewish
interest group via EMIERT had two offerings, one of which I was able
to attend (quite good!) I was surprised at the low attendance and the
fact that no one had organized any sort of Shabbat get-together. I
did find a service to attend Friday night. The next day a young
woman who teaches at a Yeshiva School (!) came to the ALISE table
where I was volunteering. She is Jewish and had never heard of AJL
and was also surprised that there was nothing organized for
Friday. There were 19,000 attendees at ALA - surely some of them
besides the folks at the program I attended (around 20 I believe)
would have been interested in some form of get-together? I know we
are now an affiliate - I hope that there will be something more for
New Orleans...????

I know that it takes a lot of work to make these things happen - can
someone tell me any of the history of AJL's connection or the
experience of other Jewish librarians or just plain old Jewish
students at ALA???

Thanks,

Nancy
