Dear Friends,

As Shavuot approaches and the wheat harvest matures in the fields and as the Greeks prepare for the Olympics we at Jerusalem Books are getting ready to send out our spring 2004 Catalog. There are many important publications only a few of which we can mention here…

The Bible and Archeology category is difficult because it can encompass many disparate topics and areas. A few of the many… “Bet She’arim” and its burial caves of the Sanhedrin” (cat # 51029 $24.00), ‘Philosophy of the Bible as Cultural Foundation in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Israel’ (by Eliezer Schweid, cat. # 50011 $24.00) and ‘Code of Genesis’ – Tzofen Bereshit - bible codes done with a scholarly approach, (cat. # 49737 $24.50) are three that stand out. (All the above are Hebrew Titles.)

In Sifrei Kodesh, the Mishna, ‘Pirkei Avot,’ has been published with the commentary of Ramban, Nachmanides, published by Feldheim (cat. # 49899, $13.00) and ‘Sefer Rabenu Yona al Pirkei Avot, is the commentary of R’ Yona of Girona, 12th Century, Spain, self published by Hillel Brisk, cat. # 51127, $16.00). Both Machon Yerushalayim and Ahavat Shalom have recently published books on the Aderet, R’ Eliyahu David Rabinovich – Teumim. First, ‘Seder Parshiyot – Bereshit,’ is important Bible commentary (cat. # 49338, $16.00) and second, ‘Otzar Kitvei ha-Aderet..’ including halacha from manuscript, published by Ahavat Shalom (cat. # 49824, $17.00).

In the realm of Sephardi Rabbinics, beyond the important works of halacha by R’ Ovadia Yosef, former Chief Rabbi, ‘Kol Tora,’ (cat. #49948 $14.50) as well there is the 3 volume ‘Sefer Mishnat Yosef,’ (cat. # 50335 $50.00) and 2 volume ‘Sefer Halikhot Mussar,’ (cat #51120 $40.00). As well, there is ‘Sefer Hora’ah d’Bet Din,’ the halacha and responsa of R’ Moshe Pardo (1724-1806) the Chief Rabbi of Alexandria Egypt, including biography (cat. # 51129 $20.00) as well as ‘Sefer Yashir Moshe – Perush le-Shir ha-Shirim,’ commentary of R’ Moshe Dayan z”l of Iraq, 1913 – 2003, published by Machon Haktav, Jerusalem 2004, (cat.# 51107 $15.00).

If we can pull away from rabbinic literature… on the Middle East – “BeShem haAv” – Bashir Al-Assad: the early years”, by Eyal Zisser, published by Tel Aviv University, (cat. #51191 $22.00) – in Hebrew.

In Hebrew literature – “Kof haMahat” (the Eye of the Needle) by Natan Zach, published by Kibbutz haMeuhad, (cat. #51035 $21.00)
