Jewish Heritage Trip to Czech Republic 2018

Hi Everyone

I went on this trip last year and thought it was a wonderful experience which I
recommend!!! We were a group of 10 Adults and a private Czech Jewish historian
was our tour guide.
This year is the 2nd year this tour is being offered by Barbara Weiss. Her
contact is below. You can also contact me if you want to know about my
experience.

Jewish Heritage and Rebirth in Prague and the Czech Republic
Summer 2018 May 29-June 16 (tentative)
CONTACT:. Barbara Weitz wei...@fiu.edu

TOUR ORGANIZER
Etta Gold sent an email about Barbara Weitz last year. So I am using her
introductory paragraph. Barbara Weitz, is a retired professor from FIU--she was
the director of the film program and now lives in Asheville, N.C., where she is
putting together a Jewish Film Festival....
For many decades, she has been taking students to Prague to introduce them to
the culture and history of the old world (mainly through film), and to visit
Theresienstadt

ITINERARY/ COSTS, ETC IS BELOW THE TOUR DESCRIPTION

THE TOUR DESCRIPTION
We will travel throughout the entire country looking for a thriving presence
that was and, with the help of the Czech government and its people, that will
be again. Thanks to its geographical position at the very heart of Europe,
the Czech Republic is a place where Europe’s historical forces have literally
crossed at all points. The Czech people are aware of their past,
from ancient cemeteries to well-preserved medieval and Renaissance castles to
the horrors of a concentration camp .

Since many people have already visited Prague and its many wonders, I have
decided to focus this tour on a larger-than-life project undertaken by the
government and people of the present-day Czech Republic.

As part of this 10 Hvezd (Star) project (http://10hvezd.cz/en/), the Federation
of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic received the largest grant in the
EU for the preservation of Jewish monuments in the Czech Lands that were badly
damaged during the entire period of WWII.

The project has enabled the reconstruction, restoration, and preservation of 15
important historical buildings in 10 towns in Bohemia and Moravia.
This undertaking included not only synagogues but also the rabbinical houses
and Jewish schools (cheders) as part of the restoration. Also taking place are
permanent exhibitions that, along with other temporary programs (lectures,
concerts, screenings, theater performances, etc.), inform visitors about Jewish
history and Judaism in a unique manner and setting.

You are given the opportunity to take part in this special trip! Not only will
you be able to learn about and participate in all the programs surrounding this
‘rebirth’ but you will also be able to pay tribute to a people lost from their
centuries-long, historically vibrant community in the Czech lands.

However this trip is not just a sobering one. You’ll have lots of opportunity
to visit the many historic towns and countryside that are idyllic and
fascinating. You will visit the beautiful
You will also have time in Prague to visit all the sights you may have missed
if you’ve traveled there before or, if not, you’ll have time visit ALL you
should see for the first time.
