Hi, Safranim coming to Boston, I want to clarify what can be confusing the first time you come to Temple Israel:
Our mailing address IS 477 Longwood Ave. Boston, MA 02215. One side of the building is on Longwood Ave and the number “477” is on a side door. But this side door is NOT the entrance. The entrance to the temple is on Nessel Way, a small side street off of Longwood Ave. As soon as you turn onto Nessel, you’ll see the entrance on your left. So, when you read the directions from the hotel in the program book (copied, below) and see “Take the left side street,” that side street is Nessel Way. If you drive in your own car (which I don't encourage), it’s ok to drop passengers off on Nessel Way, but please do not park there. The MASCO Garage is next to the temple, and you may park there but it’s not cheap, and AJL and the temple can’t validate your ticket: Here are the rates: https://www.masco.org/directions/375-longwood-garage. It is very difficult to find on-street parking in that area, so I encourage you to leave your car at the hotel if you don’t absolutely need it. It will be cheaper, and more importantly, less of a hassle to take a taxi/Uber/Lyft round trip than drive and pay for several hours of parking. And, if you’re up for walking, it’s a .6 of a mile walk- it’s actually faster to walk then taking the train because there’s no direct train route. *DIRECTIONS FROM THE HOTEL VIA TRAIN (from the program book)* Board the train across the street from the hotel (known as the Green Line C Train (or the Cleveland Circle Line) , travel inbound to Kenmore Square. Switch to the outbound Green Line D Train (known as the Riverside Line). Take the train two stops to Longwood station, walk up the small incline and turn left. You will be on Longwood Ave. Cross the Riverway. The Temple will be on your left. Continue a short distance on Longwood Ave*. Take the first left side street. The entrance to the temple is there.* *WALKING* The Holiday Inn is on the corner of Beacon Street and St.Paul Street. The easiest directions are: Cross Beacon and go straight up St.Paul Street. Walk a few blocks and make a left onto Longwood Ave. Stay on the left side of Longwood, and walk several blocks till you get to a major intersection, of Longwood and The Riverway. You’ll see the temple in front of you. Cross The Riverway, continue on Longwood one block and make a left on Nessel Way. Entrance is on your left. Please feel free to contact me with any Temple Israel or Boston questions. -- Ann Abrams, Librarian Dr. Arnold L.
